Your Life and Head Space | KW Designs Photography | Get Organized

How do you feel when someone asks you about organization?  Do you go into a panic about what your house looks like? Your workspace? Your calendar?

Or do you feel excited about what you get to do and what it creates for you?

Or maybe you latch on to it and try to control every moment of your life through it?

Your relationship with being organized can be easily seen just by thinking about it. And it’s really important to see this so you can create a healthy relationship with organization.

Now, we’re not just talking about what’s outside of us. How we implement organization outside of us is a beautiful reflection of what’s going on inside our heads.

For example, when we lack organization and feel chaotic (can’t find our keys because we toss them somewhere all of the time), we’re typically letting our minds and emotions run the show. This is a gross generalization and not a diagnosis of who you are!!

Food for thought and reflection.

The same can be true for gripping to a calendar and schedule. It’s still letting our minds and emotions run the show, just in a different way of attachment.

When we start to organize from a more harmonic place, we are able to see life from a broader perspective. We are able to create a vision and break that vision down into smaller goals that can drive our daily lives.

Try this:

Look at one area of your life that you know you want to drive in a specific way. Like go on a specific vacation at the end of 2021.

What do you need to have in place to make that happen? First off, you need to choose where you’ll be going. Is it international, local, across the country?  How long will it be? What is the date range that you’re looking at?

Just from these questions, you can start breaking it down. You have the vision and a clear idea of when and where. You can start to reverse engineer it and put down what you need to know, reservations you need to have, etc… and by what month, week, day.

Some of this you won’t know right away and you can put the general question you need to have answered and by when in your year-long calendar. Then look at the coming month. What do you need to do each week of this month to get you closer to that vacation vision?

Now you have the action steps to get you there. And it’s not panic anymore. This also allows for spontaneity. WHAT?

Yup, I said that.

Knowing what’s coming gives you breathing room to manage the parts that are totally out of your control, lets you do things that you didn’t plan for, and also lets you plan for the unexpected.

This vacation of yours, what happens if you plan a day with no plans at all? Let it be a floater day where you can decide when you get there what to do. Maybe plan two of those days. Or give your kids the chance to be part of it and make the decision?

What happens when you build an hour or two of this into every day?

Uh-oh…. I know so many people who may panic about that or know that they’ll fill it in with all the “stuff” they didn’t get to.

Again, creating this time and guarding it like your life depends on it as creative or playtime with your kids, partner, or your inner child can give your organizational side a boost you never expected.

In my next Women In Business blog, you’ll get a chance to meet Loni Brown of EntirelyEco and learn about Eco-Interior Design. What’s that got to do with organization?

It has a lot actually. When you think about planning for a baby and making sure your house is ready you can come across a lot of information that can become completely overwhelming.

Sometimes working with someone in an area of your life that easily becomes a burden rather than the joy you’ve intended it to be can be a blessing.

Give a few of these tips a try. Share with me what you implemented and how it works for you! I’d love to hear about it and I will share my experience as well!! Looking forward to seeing you in the next blog!
