What do Health, Wellness, and Lifestyle Have in Common for 2021?

2021 Fresh Start.jpg

We all have a lot to say about 2020 and the events we still need to process and heal from, or even integrate into our lives. So much is changing in the way we live! I was just realizing that my husband and I are seriously looking at how we can both work from home and not use the dining room table as a desk! Instead, we’re creating new areas to work out of in our split level ranch.

This is a BIG change that many of us are looking at. We’re no longer asking, “When will life get back to normal?” We’re now asking, “How do we acclimate to life as it is NOW?”

Health and Wellness are such big parts in this new perspective and feel almost like obligations that have an expectation. As my husband and I are working together on a Couch to 5K program, I found myself thinking while the dog is crazily running with us, “How the heck do I jog (aka: fast-walk) for 2 minutes and then rest for only 30 SECONDS?! SERIOUSLY?!? I’m changing that one around right now!”

This isn’t about fitting into a social norm anymore, it’s about how to live my life with my family in a way that brings the most joy, the most humor, and really living in a way that isn’t going back to a normal that didn’t work well to begin with.

2019 going into 2020 was busy. Not necessarily meaningful busy, just busy-busy. Life simply felt out of balance some days.

Maybe during stay at home time, it was the video games, board games, or the entire week of solid days putting a jig-saw puzzle together.

It could have been figuring out what life inside our four walls was going to be like.

Then again, there were the virtual dinners with family and realizing how much we missed them when the call was over, and then the hard realization that we wouldn’t see them in person for many more months.

Let’s be real people... digesting reality... and make it to dinner without eating fried corn dogs and jalapeno poppers every night.

In all actuality, that happened multiple times in my household and I’m pretty ok with it. It’s a new year though, and now we know that it’s no longer about “when” it’s about “how.”

The best parts about starting 2021 are by far the laughter and the sleep. I’m springing from the best fourth quarter with my business that I’ve ever had.

I’m not tired from working. I’m not wanting to avoid my camera.

I simply need to rest, to feel the recovery of working and loving the living part of it.

Giving myself permission to rest and to play allows the ability for me to come to my photo sessions refreshed.

And able to not only create, but implement the vision that I’ve held in my head this entire past year for how I want to see it blossom.

This blossom is about lifestyle. Not of the “Rich and Famous”, although that was for sure one of my favorite shows in the 90’s. I’m talking the lifestyle each and every one of us chooses.

We can choose the “Couch and Netflix” lifestyle, or the “Health Nut” lifestyle. Neither is better than the other, especially when we know that it’s us that’s doing the choosing.

I’m choosing in 2021 to have the “Connect and Reflect” lifestyle, where I focus on how each of us gets to come together and create memories. Choosing this gives me the chance to share so much with you and hear about your experiences in turn.

As the new blog posts start rolling out, please send me your comments. Share with me your ideas, how you can relate, or how you did your first Couch to 5K!

And PSST! A secret that you may not know about me!

I LOVE photographing food. Because of that love, we’re going to dive into food each month and pick a recipe to share the wonders of it.

I’d love to hear about your kitchen creations. What do you do for you, for your family, for a feast?

What feeds you?

What fuels your enjoyment of food?

I’ve got a post coming out in the next few weeks about Southern Style Shrimp and Grits, and in it, I’m going to share my love for comfort food.

Again, we’re not talking about health in the way that mainstream media talks about it. We’re talking about health, movement, food, family, the whole wellness concept as a lifestyle

I’m looking forward to sharing all of it with you.

Join me on this journey in 2021 and let’s connect with the memories you’re creating too.

I’m looking forward to seeing quite a few of you for sessions really soon! If you haven’t gotten on my calendar yet, now is the time. This first quarter is filling up fast!!
