As a new mom, nothing is off the table when it comes to creating a safe space for the new family member joining your household. When many moms start looking at what that entails, it can become incredibly overwhelming pretty quickly.

It typically starts with your diet and what to keep out so it doesn’t hurt the little one that you’re nourishing every day. In that research, you may come across products that are endocrine disruptors and you start making sure everything is BPA free.

The question goes through your mind that if certain laundry detergents or fabric softeners are endocrine disruptors, what else do I need to think about?

Then you see the tags on sleepers that warn against “too loose clothing and fire risk.”

WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!?

Yup, our highlight for Women In Business found the same things and started to do her own research.

I had the pleasure to spend some time with Loni Brown, founder of  EntirelyEco, in January and learned about her passion for creating environmentally friendly interior design, something she calls Eco-Interior Design.

Her journey down this road began when she started learning about fire-retardants in clothing, blankets, and mattresses.

“Formaldehyde, flame retardants, polyurethane foam, volatile organic compounds, pesticides, stain guards, even (in) cotton clothing and products, have been treated with pesticides and flame retardants!”

Learning all of this sent Loni into hundreds of hours of researching products and what companies are selling in the home decoration industry, as well as baby products. Then her friends and family started coming to her for more information.

After sharing this information with those she loved, more and more people started seeking her out for help in creating a toxic free home.

Loni went from 10 years of interior design and eco-friendly environments as a hobby to the last 5 years turning her business into not just a local go-to, but an international online business and design company.

She doesn’t stop there. She also offers Eco-Home Coaching for anyone wanting to really dive into creating a fully eco-friendly environment for their family.

Loni learned early that there are no regulations on health safety and home decoration. Her passion for creating sustainability and removing home pollutants together has driven her toward helping new moms and families to create sustainable changes in their homes and to keep everyone healthy for generations to come. She offers Wholesome Nursery Design and Toxin Free Eco Nursery Systems.

While Loni is busy creating a sustainable environment for others, we had to find out about the things that sustain her too.

Like many business owners, there’s a need and desire for flexibility. She’s currently managing her business and making it work around caring for her 4-month old. Not that she’s the only one sharing time with the new family addition, it sounds like the older siblings are busy teaching their new sister that you don’t call Loni “Mom”, her nickname is affectionately “Meetoh.”

The birth of her daughter is by far her most proud moment of the past year. After 18 hours of labor, she was finally brought into the world without medication/intervention. Loni’s husband was a major support and now sees her as a superwoman.

Wait, just now?! I’m sure he’s seen her superpowers long before the birth of their second child, how could anyone not?!

I wanted to know more about what makes this superwoman click and she shared that it’s not just the full body massage she gets every month, but it’s the way she cares for herself on other levels too.

How could an internationally sought designer have imposter syndrome? Well, it seems that it’s something we all face, and Loni has what she calls her “Hype-File.” It’s a collection of the accolades, positive feedback, and thank you’s that people have shared over the years, all in one folder.

After journaling and positive affirmations, this file is a go-to when she needs to be reminded of why she’s doing what she does. I think we all need one of these…

Other ways to stay on track?

Movement, meditation, Cheesy popcorn and Reality TV. Not bad, I say.

And wait, Crab Legs with Corn on the Cobb?! We want your favorite recipe, please!!

The last pieces, that I love to save for the end of these blogs…

The last thing Loni read was: Wolfpack by Abby Wamback - “OMG so good, every girl and woman should read it! It's so inspiring and empowering.”

But what are your words of wisdom Loni??

“Everything in Moderation...even moderation” -Oscar Wilde

Thanks Loni for taking the time to share your journey and passion! It was great to learn about you and what you’re doing.

~Cheers!! Kim
