Women in Business | Dr. Alyssa Quimby, DC | Rise Chiropractic

Women In Business, Lakewood, CO

Dr. Alyssa Quimby, DC   Rise Chiropractic

This is a special edition of Women In Business for me because I get to work with Alyssa whenever I’m at the portrait studio in Lakewood.

She has been a great support for my business over the past year and a half, and I’m grateful for her presence during the pandemic.

There are so many ways in which we impact people’s lives and you never know to what extent that will show up in every relationship. I think we’ve all had a chance to really look at that in the past 15 months or so, don’t you?

Part of what makes Alyssa so valuable is her commitment to impacting people’s lives. This part of her drive doesn’t just fuel who she works with, it keeps her in the mindset of accountability.

You can experience this in her care through her level of knowledge, the way she works with individuals one on one, and how she continues to search for answers to provide the best results she possibly can for each person who walks through her door.

All of this was tested as she took over Rise Chiropractic in February of 2020. On the cusp of the world shutting down, she was starting a hands-on business.

Not very many people would give her business a chance for survival. Funny thing is, there are a number of Fortune 500 companies that started during some of the worst recessions in history. So, let’s give her a chance to blossom from the challenges she did survive.

Non-Invasive Approach to Injuries

Typically when we experience pain in our lives we want to do everything we possibly can to get out of it, and many of us will force our way out of it. Typically when we end up using force, we find ourselves with a whole new host of challenges.

As a youth, Alyssa spent a large portion of her time as a competitive athlete. To say her 10-year old self would be disappointed that she’s not in the WNBA is an understatement.

Forcing her way through an injury happened on more than one occasion, and learning to harness the body’s ability to heal was a gift that has carried her passion for science, wellness, and impacting the lives of others.

Forcing through something is an approach that works when we find ourselves so stuck that we become immobile, but even then there is the need to tease open the door to the next level, and force becomes tenacity.

When looking at the body and how it encases the nervous system, Alyssa is able to see how something is creating compression or tension on the nerves that keep our organs, muscles, and brain working efficiently.

From a non-invasive approach, Alyssa is able to move or shift soft and hard tissue so it creates room for the body to have more freedom. This freedom not only supports the healing of injuries, it also has the ability to prevent injury

Consider if you ever have the need for an invasive approach, such as ACL surgery or C-Section delivery. These approaches, while very necessary in many instances, leave scar tissue which ends up pulling the surrounding tissue into a more fixed position.

This pulling can impact movement in a completely different part of the body, creating changes in the way you walk, stand, and in the case of a C-Section, the way you go to the bathroom.

Who knew that cutting into the uterus would impact how it sits in the body!!! It’s amazing when you get to see the model of the female pelvis and where everything is connected!!!

Ok, back to the amazing Alyssa…

Be Seen AND Heard

It’s called a “practice” for a reason, and part of that reason is that just because someone’s a doctor doesn’t mean they know everything. Alyssa gets this, and while having the answer for her patients is important, so is knowing that her patients know the answer too.

That sounds a little disbelievable, especially if you’re in a ton of pain and you just want someone to get you out of it. I know, I get it!

Going into Alyssa’s office is different from some other offices. You’re not another person in the rotation. You get time with her, and part of that time is being heard.

When you talk about the way you’re experiencing your pain and the way it impacts your life, Alyssa is listening to all of it, AND watching the way you move as you talk.

It’s pretty crazy, but if you say you have pain on one side of your body but keep touching another part of it, you’re actually giving her a clue as to where part of your injury is and don’t even know it.

That’s one cool part of how she’s listening to you. The other cool part is that she's listening to you.

How often do you feel fully heard in a doctor's office? Or in life, for that matter? This is your chance to be a participant in your health and healing.

This last bit is really important to know because Alyssa works with families. Being able to provide this level of care to your child from being inside mom’s belly to graduating high school teaches your child how important it is to be heard and participate in their own health and wellness.

It’s especially important for athletes of all ages. Being empowered in healing injuries supports better outcomes for not only the injury being addressed, but any injuries that may happen in the future. Individuals are learning how to listen to their body and its signals, which supports injury prevention and healing.

How lucky are the ladies at Ballistic Volleyball to have Alyssa as a coach?! Makes me want to play again…kidding, I’ll stick with fly fishing.

A Non-Sterile Environment

Yes, Alyssa washes her hands, equipment, and her space. That doesn’t mean her office has the uninviting plastic covered couches from the 70’s, or is completely white with zero personality.

On a good day, you’re greeted by Granger and Remus, her four-legged side-kicks that love people and especially children. You feel at home and put at ease when you arrive, which is the best thing for a body seeking pain relief.

Or a new mom looking to support her newborn after a tough birth with two older children in tow and her low back wanting to give out from carrying them all.

Arriving at Rise Chiropractic is in some ways like returning to a place of comfort. The only thing missing is the chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven. (I’ll talk to her about that, maybe we can work on getting returning families cakes for their birthdays!)

Part of her secret sauce to creating a family friendly environment is the way that she practices when you’re not looking. Her favorite part of the day is the end of the day.

Not because it’s over!

Because she takes the time at the end of each day to make sure the notes she’s taken are complete. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the care of each patient, what she did and didn’t do, any additional thoughts and possible approaches to try the next time you come in.

It’s this kind of care that fuels the tenacity and accountability that keeps her practice alive, even through one of the toughest years any of us has seen.

Add that to her rule to live by to “Always be Kind” and you’ve got a doctor who practices complementary and holistic medicine in a way that can keep you empowered and living with efficiency and ease.

Who could want anything more?!
